In 1967 Father Benedict Groeschel, of the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal, founded the
St. Francis House in Greenpoint, Brooklyn in order to provide a safe haven and highly
structured home environment designed to meet the needs of young men, ages 18 and up, who, having run out of
alternatives, are looking for a new start in life. We try to break the cycle of poverty that
traps our youth into thinking they have no hope for the future.
The St. Francis House provides a home for these young men where they receive guidance in
order to change their lives.
